BLIND MONK THEORY?

BLIND MONK TRIO formed early 2012 playing arrangements of Thelonious Monk tunes without a pianist! After appearing at many festival/ club dates (Gateshead International Jazz Fest, Mostly Jazz Fest, Manchester Jazz Fest, Marsden Jazz Fest, Liverpool Jazz Fest, Manchester Literature Fest, Buxton International Fest ...), we released our first original CD “Coulrophobia” and have been busy writing and touring ever since.

2019 sees new member Martin Smith (The Weave) on trumpet/ flugelhorn completing the line up for BLIND MONK THEORY?

Our latest material forges all our wide ranging influences - jazz, folk, beats, african, asian, classical, cinematic, rock, electronic into a unique sound firmly steeped in the legendary chordless groups of Sonny Rollins, Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry and the compositions of Thelonious Monk, yet simultaneously yielding a current UK jazz revivalist vibe.

Martin Smith - trumpet, flugelhorn / Bob Whittaker - tenor saxophone / Hugo Harrison - double bass / Johnny Hunter - drums
